Deadline is 5 December 2016

Who can apply:

To apply you have to:

  • be an NGO leader, legal worker, journalist, social worker, cultural worker, social entrepreneur, civil servant, youth politician or in another type of leadership role
  • work actively for democracy, sustainability, diversity and/or human rights
  • be between 22 and 32 years old (born 1984 – 1995)
  • have a good working knowledge of both written and spoken English
  • be a citizen of Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine*, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia or Yemen.

About the program:

The YLVP programme is leadership training within the context of working for an equal and sustainable society. Participants will learn in group from both experts within the field and from each other.

The contents of the programme will vary from year to year as it is the particular expertise and experience of participants that will largely determine the topics. However, the following broader subjects will be central to the programme: equality, sustainability, transparency, democracy and human rights. Problem-solving will involve discussions on global and/or common challenges, network building and digital tools.

YLVP goals

YLVP aims to support young leaders in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and Sweden by giving them the tools and methods they need in their work for an equal and sustainable society. YLVP is as much about personal as it is about professional development. It is about growing as a person with renewed confidence and insights, and growing as a leader with new tools, methods and perspectives.

Even though the programme focuses on networks and collaboration, one of the most fundamental tools is gaining personal insights and self-awareness as a leader, a change-maker and a person. Participants will discover how they work in a group, and how their behaviours and attitudes can be used to support the group and the process.

Understanding how one is as a person and how one works in a group will make the individual a more effective team member and leader. Gaining greater understanding of the environment and issues on a local, regional and global level will make participants more effective at accomplishing social change.

Taking part in YLVP also means becoming a part of an alumni network that offers the opportunity to exchange ideas and multiply your impact. The YLVP network is very much alive and active. It consists of YLVP alumni who continue to support each other’s personal and professional development and collaborate on social issues.

The programme relies heavily on collaboration and learning from each other. It also explores the current digital landscape, and the social media sessions during YLVP offers participants tools and perspectives to use social media more effectively in their work.

2017 AMENDS Delegate Application

2017 AMENDS Delegate Application

Deadline is November 1st, 11:59 PST.

About the program:

AMENDS is a student initiative at Stanford University that brings together the most promising youth change agents from across the Middle East, North Africa, and United States to learn from each other, connect with global leaders and resources, and share, through TED style talks, their ideas and experiences with the world.

AMENDS has three main components: networking, summit, and the AMENDS Talks. During the summit, delegates will share their ideas, collaborate on their initiatives, and interact with world leaders in workshops, panel discussions, and formal networking events. The conference will culminate in the AMENDS Talks, presentations from all of the delegates on their initiatives, ideas, and experiences. These presentations will be shared online for the world to see.

Five years ago, the protests across the Middle East inspired us to create a space for the most promising youth change agents from across the Middle East, North Africa, and United States to collaborate on their work, connect with global leaders and resources, and amplify their voices. Since then, AMENDS has brought together over 120 extraordinary youth leaders from eighteen countries, reached over 72,000 people from around the globe, and created relationships that will continue to transform the United States and the Middle East.

Who can apply:

Applicants must:

  • be 18 – 28 years old.
  • have innovative ideas and well thought-out initiatives that could affect positive change in the world.
  • have initiatives addressing political, social, or economic issues pertaining to the Middle East in innovative ways.
  • demonstrate the potential to further understanding between the respective regions and demonstrate potential to influence American-Middle Eastern affairs.

Delegates will be selected based on the level of their dedication to promoting change in the MENA region and/or in U.S.- MENA relations. AMENDS will also heavily consider the past experiences and backgrounds of each delegate that will enable him/her to contribute a unique perspective to the conference, in order to ensure a rich, diverse group of delegates.

Accepted delegates will:

  • Present a 10-12 minute video talk about their initiative at Stanford University. Hosted on our channel, these talks have over 70,000 people.
  • Attend a networking dinner.
  • Receive financial and logistical assistance with flights and visas to and from Stanford, CA. Accommodations and food will be provided.
  • Attend workshops and talks at Stanford. In the past, this has included a talk by Prince Moulay Hicham, a workshop on presenting by the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a workshop on design thinking by the Stanford d.school.
  • Join and take leadership in the AMEND Fellows Network, a self-sustaining network of 120 former delegates. For the past 3 years, a separate conference has been held annually for fellows at Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey.
